Mordecai, a Defiant Resister

There is something in us that wants to be on the winning side. There is another drive that sometimes competes. That is the desire to be rightfully aligned with God. That is, in other words, our conscience,
Alignment with God's kingdom and will is a basis for hope that we can have both realized.
However, sometimes, we must proceed without hope and with only the conviction that we are taking the stand that is right and righteous.
There have always been edicts from systems that have raised issues and choices of conscience. These edicts have been presented as nonnegotiable, and lack of compliance has come with negative consequences.
There have always been those who have resisted based upon conscience.
Mordecai, the Jew, could not and would not offer worship to a human being. Nor could he pledge his loyalty to an imposter or a pretender. This was a matter of conscience for him.
Mordecai would not kneel down or pay him honor.
So, torn between conflicting nonnegotiable demands on his loyalty, without the book even mentioning God by name, Mordecai chose to reserve his loyalty for God.
This would bring a viable threat on Mordecai's life and the life of all the Jews in Persia.
Ultimately, it would lead to a divine victory and reversal, because God always wins.

The King of Richmond, Gabriel's Rebellion

General Gabriel Prosser  (1775-1800) On August 30,  1800, Gabriel Prosser intended to lead a rebellion and become the king of Richmond and several surrounding counties. An enslaved man, Gabriel was "owned" by Thomas Henry Prosser of Brookfield plantation near Richmond, Virginia. He was most likely born on the plantation where he lived. He was married and he was a skilled blacksmith, He believed that his people were being unjustly enslaved and wanted to do something about it Out of that, he organized a major slave uprising.  It was the boldest plan of its kind to be conceived of in the history of slavery in the Southern states. It may have succeeded. However, it was literally rained out. There was a sudden and severe downpour.  Also, some of the  slaves  of Mosby Shepherd told their master of the plot and it was thwarted. Alfred, Lord Tennyson, was first and foremost, a poet. It was not an avocation for him. It was his primary vocation. It was calling. He was certain of it. Even if old age, when granted a peerage which gained him admission to the House of Lords in England, he said that he accepted on behalf of literature.
